Earthquake In Indonesia, Tremors Felt In Kolkata

About 2.08pm, a mild tremor felt in Kolkata today, due to a strong 8.9
earthquake hits Indonesia earlier. Again at 4.20pm, a mild tremor (aftershock) felt
in Kolkata. But the Alipore Weather Office not abled to measure the strength of the first tremor in the city. After the first earthquake, again 6.5 and 8.2 and 8.1 aftershocks
hit Indonesia within 24 hours. The offices in Kolkata
evacuated after the first tremor quickly. The roads remained crowded
by the feared public. A few office buildings of Park Street developed
crack. Kolkata Metro Rail were suspended from 2.42pm and the
passengers asked to evacuate stations. Metro rail resumed again from 3.30pm. Tremor also felt in the
districts near the sea. Many buildings developed cracks. The tremor
also felt in north Bengal. Two neighbour buildings lied one on
another at Camac Street. 1m Tsunami may be occurred in coastal areas of Sagar/Kakdwip
near Kolkata at 5.50pm today according to officials. The officials said that
people need not to worry as no indication of major alert or warnings
are there in Bengal. But Tsunami alert issued for both two Parganas
and Purba Medinipur by the state administration. The tourists at Digha
are being asked to leave the place immediately. Tsunami alert issued
for Andaman & Nicobar Islands by the Central Government. A team of
Kolkata Municipal Corporation is now visiting the skyscrapers of the
city to evaluate the damages due to tremor. The Chief Minister of West Bengal asked all to stay safe.--

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir Of Baranagar

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir of Baranagar, popularly known as Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is situated on the bank of river Hooghly at Baranagar of Kolkata. Baranagar is a very old place, more than 500 years ago this place was existed.  Famous zaminder Joyram Mitra of Sovabazar established this temple in mid-April of the year 1851. He bought about 3 bighas land at Baranagar from some James saheb and established the temple there similar to Brahmamoyee Kali temple of Mulajor of Shyamnagar.The goddess here is Dakshina Kali (দক্ষিণা কালী).
