Boishakh Will Start With 'Gaan Mela'

12 April, 2012 'Gaan Mela' (fair of songs) would be inaugurated at
Netaji Indoor Stadium at 5pm, by the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
The weeklong fair will introduce the heritage of Bangla songs by many
known and unknown artists. Songs and melody always in the air of
Bengal. From traditional to contemporary songs - all the aspects of
Bangla songs will be echoed in the air for the next 8 days. And the
new Bangla year 1419 will start from Saturday. So, Boishakh will be
more melodious under the enchant of 'Gaan Mela'.
The pride of India and Bangladesh - veteran singer Firoza Begum will
be present here tomorrow to get the 'Maha Sangeet Samman' (the great
honour in the field of music). Alongwith her, veteran vocalist Girija
Debi, singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, Amar Paul,
Subir Sen, Sumitra Sen and Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty would be honoured by 'Maha Sangeet Samman'. The
'Sangeet Samman' would be given to other renowned singers of the city
- Arati Mukhopadhyay, Banashree Sengupta, Nirmala Mishra, Nachiketa,
Swagatalaxmi Dasgupta, Ustad Rashid Khan, Purno Das Baul, Shrikanta Acharya, Mansur Fakir, Kumar Subba.

A cultural programme will be organised during inauguration in which, students of Grahams Home of Kalimpong will perform orchestration.

Rendition of Shlokas (Stotra paath) by Sandhya Mukhopadhyay; Rendition of songs by Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Ustad Rashid Khan, Nachiketa, SriKanta Acharya, Swagatalaxmi Dasgupta and Bangla Band 'Dohar'.

Other day's programme: 13 April: Whole night classical vocal concert at Rabindra Sadan, 14-21 April: songs at Rabindra Sadan, Shishir Mancha, Muktomancha (Rabindra Sadan), Moharkunjo; 14-18 April: Deshopriyo Park; 16-21 April: Girish Mancha; 13-21 April: Exhibition on Anupam Ghatak, Jyotirindra Moitra, Kamal Dasgupta and Hemango Bishwas under title 'Shataborse Shraddhanjoli' (A Tribute On Centenary) at Gaganendra Pradarshashala.

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Kripamoyee Kali Mandir Of Baranagar

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir of Baranagar, popularly known as Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is situated on the bank of river Hooghly at Baranagar of Kolkata. Baranagar is a very old place, more than 500 years ago this place was existed.  Famous zaminder Joyram Mitra of Sovabazar established this temple in mid-April of the year 1851. He bought about 3 bighas land at Baranagar from some James saheb and established the temple there similar to Brahmamoyee Kali temple of Mulajor of Shyamnagar.The goddess here is Dakshina Kali (দক্ষিণা কালী). If you walk from 'Kuthi ghat' of Baranagar river bank a few steps ahead, you'll reach to the temple - 171 years old this temple is situated by the side of Hara Kumar Thakur Strand.
